Ghost 7.5 hangs at "dumping mft table file"

Hi all

 

Running Ghost from a DOS floppy - PC boots up into Ghost, accepts the Ghost session from the Ghost server but, when I start to dump the image from the PC to the server it hangs at the "dumping mft table file" point.

 

I have checked and rechecked the HD for any errors but I stll get this 'hang'

 

Any clues?

I had a mysterious thing like this with ghost (I was so convinced I replaced the PCs hard drive). It turned out to be an issue with the universal PXE driver. I've found NetBootDisk.com - The Universal TCP/IP Network Bootdisk for M$ Networks is pretty bomb proof with ghost 7.

That version of Ghost is quite out of date.

 

Try the various command line switches for disk access too.

• -fnx (Disable extended Int13 support)
  
• -fni (Disable direct IDE access support)
  
• -fns (Disable direct ASPI/SCSI access support)
  

 

The other option someone is bound to suggest : FOG.

Hi all

 

OK finally got somewhere - the PC had one EIDE Western Digital Caviar disc installed - no errors reported by either Win XP or manufacturer's utilities - however it was setup as a Dynamic Disc with a single volume.

 

Converted the disc to Basic disc and it is now Ghosting with an estimated 45 mins left

It is, just a shame you can't (well I can't anyway) make it work with Ghost 7's PEX boot.

if you want to pxe boot into ghost (any version) i have found the best way is to use VistaPE — Home and use that to creat a bootable wim file with ghost exes in there then basically f12 boot the pc into vista load ghost and away you go

we use a WIM made with the VISTA waik with ghost32.exe in the system32 directory and added the command and switches to startnet.cmd to autostart ghost.
