How do I change from Bing to Google toolbar...?

Hi

 

Please can you anyone help with a IE8 problem i am having...? I am trying to change IE8s default search engine back to Google needs to be changed within Group Policy updated the ADM to IE8s but i am unable to see where the setting are that tell IE8 to use Bing?

 

Any Help would be more then helpful

By default there isn't a policy you can set. I created a custom ADM which I charged around £20 and this covers you for your whole domain. I don't currently have it hosted on my website. This will allow you to set Google as the default search engine. It also works with IE7 too on XP/2003 only.

I am about to make an adm etc up for this anyway to set our new IE8/W7 boxes so I will post it later. Also I think you can use the IEAK8 (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/ie/cc889351.aspx) to make a msi that you install after building that sets the options but I dont know about the limitation of the IEAK.

 

On a side point Michael please note you cant really promote pay apps etc on this site without sponsorship, only freebies plz.

Client OS: XP Pro: SP3.

Client browser: Either IE7 or IE8 [i am partway through moving to IE8 on our classroom/office machines]

Domain controller OS: Windows Server 2008: 64 Bit.

I have just completed a fesh install of XP SP3 at home. When it got to the point where it asks about Bing/Google etc I captured the following URL:

My plan is to try this out tomorrow at work. If it works I intend to include the change in the next round of images [or I might be able to create an MSI based upon the changes?]

Sorry to drag this old thread up but ZeroHour...how did you get on with your W&/IE8 boxes?

 

I am trying to achieve this also (just want Google as my default search Provider) but I keep hitting brick walls!

Ok - managed to solve it with a reg to adm tool. A little bit old school but seems to work just fine

I would also be interested in this. I have not had much time to look at this since my last post and in fact I had forgotten all about it.

 

But now that someone else appears to have cracked it why re-invent the wheel? Either way I would like to give it a go on our network to see if it also cures this issue for us.

Thank you. This worked really well. However it did not remove the other search provider. While this is not a major problem it would be nice to have it work this way.

I added the ADM and then edited the policy to change the settings. The ADM by itself will not make the changes you require. I can dump some server screenshots if that would help...

OK. After adding the ADM edit the GPO where you added it and go to:

 

User Configuration/Administrative Templates/Classic Administrative Templates (ADM)

 

Once there you should see:

 

Software/Microsoft/Internet explorer/SearchScopes

 

and:

 

Software/Microsoft/Internet explorer/SearchScopes{????????-???-????-????-?????????????}

 

Under the first key you will see:

 

Default Scope

Download Retries

 

Here I only edited The values in Default scope.

 

I enabled the setting and selected the string offered:

Under the second key you should see seven values [only three of which I edited:

 

DisplayName

URL

FavIcon

 

In order I set to enabled and then set them as follows:

You can then wait for the settings to deploy [replicate across your nertwork] or you could at the server:

 

Start/Run/CMD

 

GPUPDATE /FORCE

 

After that logon as a user and test your settings. You should find that your search provider for Internet Explorer has changed.

and there are no keys in the folders to Edit.

You may have filtering enabled. Right click on your policy shown on your screenshot select view/filtering...

If you are filtering your view remove ticks from the boxes:

 

• Filter by requirements information
  
• Only show configured policy settings
  
• Only show policy settings that can be fully managed

But how can i with GPO prevent explorer from prompt a pop-up box with a question if the user really want to change search provider to google. (Swedish Pop-up )

I must admit I haven't seen that happen here. Are there any other dialog boxes that are non-English?
