The very first release of Chrome OS, source code only. It is not designed to be installed on existing netbooks but rather to be integrated tightly with the hardware, an SSD will be mandatory.

 

The Chrome OS effectively turns a netbook into a thin client. All applications will be web apps, all data will be stored in the cloud and the operating system will be booted from Flash - no hard disks will be supported.

 

"We want Chrome OS to be blazingly fast," said Sundar Pichai, vice president of product management at Google. "We want it to be like a TV - turn it on and you're in your web application."

 

Google demonstrated the OS booting on an Eee PC in around seven seconds. "We're working very, very, very hard to make this time shorter," Pichai said.

Thanks for linking to the images. Using VirtualBox, I just get a black screen. Is there any special settings the VM needs for it to work?

I'm told it needs an internet connection on boot, so bridged mode is probably best and give it as much RAM / CPU as you can.

I've got it downloaded and onto our SAN but I can't attach it as an existing disk as it doesn't show as an avalible VMDK

You did uncompress it from the zip file yeah?

Of course I did - I have even tried renaming it so it doesn't have .'s in the middle of the file name - still nout

didn't save the name change as id's done it within the datastore browser - name changed in explorer and re-uploaded.

with VMware you need to use bridged networking.

created new VM - linux 32 bit - 2.6 kernel

256mb

bridged networking

 

don't let it boot and edit settings, removed drive,

added new drive by pointing to VMDK and off you go.

 

The hardcore linux fans wont like this!

what if you are using a proxy? how do you add the settings in virtual box?

I don't think google have thought that far or they don't see a need for proxies as it's an os which is effectively out on the cloud

Had to rename the vdmk for VMware to decide is was worthy too!
