I installed sims mobile on a new server and updated it to v4.11

I am able login to the CMSMobileAdmin page, setup users and assign user rights.

I am trying to test offline use on the pda and I'm unable to login to sims mobile on the pda using a usb cable; i get the message login failed.

I have run the diagnostic tests which responds successfully

When i am trying to run the user login part of the diagnostic tests (frmTest), i get the following error:

SIMS login test failed

Failed to login to sims.

The test returned this reply:

Login failure; object reference not set to an instance of an object

The user has the appropriate permissions in SIMS and the CMSMobile Admin page and i can login to SIMS.net Desktop with the user.

I have checked the following:

Tried to login using multiple users

SIMS Config XML file settings

Configutil settings are correct

Ran Configutil opened api and saved settings

I've tried to contact capita supportnet but as usual they have completed ignored the above and pointed me to a knowledge base article which isnt relevant

the first suggestion by the article they have refered me to is to check whether i have a network connection.

well i think i established that when the diagnostics test came back successful!

anyone have any ideas?

Follow the link... It just requires a browser, any browser...

i'm sorry i thought it was spam.

What is this anyway?

I cant see any company info on the site.

Does it have offline use?

Anyway its not applicable as i dont have control over purchasing and the school has invested a lot of money into SIMS Mobile.

Well I suggest then that the school invest some more money in support as it is quite obvious to me that you are in need of it desperately!!!

I would also look at your posts and reflect on how you ask for help as you have a distinct attitude problem in my eyes when people are offering help. :(

@bossman

I think someone has got the "wrong end of the stick"

I was asking for help about sims mobile and was baffled about the response which was:

"I came across this new product for iPhones the other day, it may be of interest to you..

http://www.teacherswebfolder.com/"

I made it clear i was using PDAs so i dont see what iphones have to do with it which was a valid query.

I had a look at the link in the post and again i believe i have made a valid point about the website e.g. where is the company information etc.

I haven't heard of Teacher's WebFolder before.

"Well I suggest then that the school invest some more money in support as it is quite obvious to me that you are in need of it desperately!!!"

Well my personal opinion of sims mobile is it's rubbish but thats not relevant.

"I would also look at your posts and reflect on how you ask for help as you have a distinct attitude problem in my eyes when people are offering help. "

It's a shame you think that and it's out of order.

I don't have any problems with people offering help.

I've posted many times on this forum and never had anyone complain about how i ask for help.

I think you need to chill.

Reading the post again and with hindsight, I may have been a little hasty in my remarks. Although no one else has made a remark stating this, I wondered if you may have been yourself a little hasty in your replies to other posts which may have made it seem to one such as me (Age experienced) a little fierce.

I do not post to offend and if any offense has been sustained then I would gladly offer an apology. :) :)

When you say you're testing it offline, did you first test it when it was online?

by offline i mean there is a function in sims mobile which allows you to take a copy of the sims database to a pda, allowing you to take registers around school without having to use a wireless connection.

you have to synchronize with sims using a wireless or activesync connection though to registers to be updated.

the bit im stuck on is logging into sims mobile.

Ok... AFAIK this is how its supposed to work:

Login while connected to wireless (and not to connected to usb at the same time)

Then you go offline, it will ask you to authenticate again.

Sync, will ask to authenticate again.

There after you are offline and you can login offline, using sync to send/receive data.

how far have you got?

well the mobile admin iis site broke yesterday so i can't even setup users.

pdas are currently failing the diagnostic test with the error:

failed to access the web services layer.

nothing has changed on the server so i cant see whats gone wrong.

i've tried iisreset, updating the config utility,

no doubt capita will now ask me to reinstall the software.

Well if the mobile admin site is broke.. that dont help.. chances are this is related to .Net as ours break often, especially during upgrades. Usually to fix it we need to uninstall and reinstall .Net, and yes from 1 to 3.5. Dunno if thats your problem but that may help.

Just to check before you do all of that, (sorry if its a dumb question) but when you tried to get to Mobile Admin, this was done on a wired system?

You may also want to check to see if you have an exception for your sims server on your pdas. FYI everytime you connect a pda to a pc, it will set your proxy (atleast thats what it does over here) so you need to make sure your server is in the exceptions or it will try to got through your proxy.

Can i ask if you have managed to upgrade to 4.11 yet?

I'm accessing the sims mobile admin page directly from the server.

The mobile admin page was working fine until yesterday afternoon.

In between the time it was working and the time it broke, the only changes made to the server was running run the config util, clicked open, clicked update apis and clicked save.

I had sims mobile running fine until this upgrade!

I've never had a succesfull first time upgrade with sims mobile; something always breaks.

It would have been easier to purchase netbooks for PE staff and have them use the netbooks with our wireless points to access sims.net!
