I am about to replace a number of dying projectors (Infocus X3) which are just coming up to 4 years old. These have not lasted as well as some of our other projectors but as we have only been using large numbers for around 5 years we don't have much history to compare them against. Can other's comment on the normal life span of projectors. Any recommendations for projectors/brands which seem to last well would be appreciated. The best ones we've had are our aging Philips Bsure many of which are still in use after more than 6 years. Unfortunately the cost of the replacement lamps for these means we're phasing them out

98% of our projectors are Epson (all new projectors are Epson XGA too), with a total amount of around 50. We bought them in batches (2004, 2005 etc), so the oldest are around 4 years (there are a minority of other brands which are 5-6 years old). We have no money at all, so can't afford to replace them, only if the quality gets very, very bad (older ones) or if the lamp cost in the minority brands make it worthwhile buying new.

We'd like a 4-5 year replacement plan on them (unless they are fine at this time, in which case they stay), however like anything, it's as-and-when they need doing. Epson all the way here though, mainly due to the fact that we like consistancy and can't really say anything bad against them (and the prices seem fairly reasonable). There are cheaper brands, but consistancy for us is preferred (unless the prices went too high).

We are lucky to get 3 years, mainly because staff cannot be bothered to switch them off when not in use. I have given up trying to persuade staff to turn them off & leave it to SMT to find the money to replace the ones that have been cooked.

We had a load of Sanyo ones where the image went yellow prematurely, we have been using Hitachi as replacements, these seem to survive longer.

Epson and Sony projectors have the longest life of any projector make and model.

On average the projector should last around 6 years or so, and the bulbs around 2000 hours (between 12 months - 15 months of school usage). Hope that helps. Also speak to simon as he wont be beaten on his pricing for bulbs as we just bought a batch from him at the best price we could find!
