Shame you're not using ESXi - we ported across when our "real" server was playing up - and it was a done deal in under half an hour..

There are some client tools floating around for specific linux VMs under Hyper-V

and some progress on the SMP front with an RC Windows Virtualization Team Blog : Linux Integration Services v2.1 Release Candidate Now Available

 

No idea whether this indicates real progress towards better support for all linux variants though.

Thanks for those links. Next big kernel fiddling will be in the next version - Q1 '11. All improvements up to then will be "inline" on the same base OS.

Tried looking around the site but couldn’t find anything..

There's a new kernel coming out this week (or that will be the start of staged release), which does a better job of hyper-v. I say better job... it is probably the best we can hope for in terms of the drivers etc. but installation may still require a little manual tickling, and we don't know for sure wether this will give good enough performance (we know it will be better... but better enough is hard to tell until it is in customer hands).
