Two juicy Network Manager posts in London

One is at EastLea Community School (Canning Town):

ICT Systems and Development Manager NJC PO2! (can you believe it)

£29k-£31K

This is a real middle managment post. Strategy, policy, managing techicians blah, blah, blah

 

The other is at Fulhams Cross School and Languages College

ICT Network Manager PO3! £32.9K-£35.5K

Sounds like it a more traditional NM post but need to have 5+years exp & SIMS.net knowledge

 

These seem to be posts for someone wanting a 2nd or 3rd NM post and not for recent MCSA graduates. Think GrumbleDuke without the fishnets

Not really, there's quite a few linux jobs floating about and they all pay at least +10 or +15 thousand more than an equivelent Windoze MCSE job.

 

There was a nice Windows/Linux intergration 6 month contract going in Essex for 55k a year for example.

London wages are always higher than up here. Strange that the NM job is more than the systems development wotsit...

What you have to remember is that London Weighting is applied to those salaries - so you can subtract anything from £3k-£7k for a more realistic comparison....

at the risk of sounding controversial, I don't think those pay grades are all _that_ impressive. Not bad, maybe, but (as Indiegirl replied) remember London Weighting; nothing to get excited about either.

I take your point about London weighting but your getting a living wage probably the same as an experienced teacher or a doctor but you don'thave to dress wounds and stuff

I'm a bit further south than Northants, I'm in Bedfordshire. Cost of living is far from cheap here. Of course it isn't exactly cheap anywhere these days...

 

Given my skill-set and experience, I know I'm expensive but lots of people think I'm worth it.

 

Long story short, by the time you balanced the cost of the commute against the wage increase, if I won the highest paid of those two jobs, and assuming the salary offer was somewhere in the middle of their posted range, I'd be at best taking home the same as I do to be an assistant netman now.

 

As I said, good jobs there, but not exceptional.

Looks like coorporate is your only option unless you would consider freelance consultancy.
