Has anyone done a DR course? or does anyone know of a particularly good course etc?

Would it even be worth going on a course?

DR is normally referred to as disaster recovery, this could cover a number of scenarios and safeguards for recovering from 'disaster' such as loss of critical services through to backup and restore policies.

data recovery normally means the specific task of recovering data from a damaged or corrupt disk or raid array.

do you mean the latter ? in which case, i would say it's unusual to go on any courses unless it's a course specific to a data recovery product. Even then i think most either go to a specialist company or try and get somehwere with an open source product. or do you just mean plain old backup and restore ?

it sounds like splitting hairs, but the correct terminology is important.

I was in a lazy mood and was hoping the title would lend itself to the abbreviation, but yes data recovery rather than disaster recovery (too boring and expensive for the latter)

I can see why it would make sense to go to a specialist company, but if something can be done with say non-critical data in-house, then it seems something of a waste to spend the money they want (ok, most will tell you what they can do before you pay)...
