Classic Logon Disappeared!

Hi all,

 

I was making some changes under Windows Steady State and I hold my hands up I must've screwed up!

 

Now when I boot up there is no Classic Logon available and it boots straight to the 'User' account. If I log off that account the only account I can see is the 'User' account.

 

My 'IT Admin' (password protected) must be there somewhere but I'll be damned if I can figure how to get to it! the problem is that the 'User' account is quite well locked down and has not access to the C:, Control Panel, Run command, CMD prompt etc.

 

Does anybody have any ideas on what I can do so that I can get to my 'IT Admin' account and tick/untick the right boxes in Windows Steady State so I get it back to the way it was?!!

Log off the user and then press Ctrl-Alt Del twice, this should give you the classic logon boxes.

This site never fails to amaze me at the speed of people replying. Within 5 minutes there was a reply, the problem rectified and the laptop now back on the shelf ready to be issued.

I found this by accident when the same was happening when i took them off the domain when i was still working, i thought this was a glitch or a bug, but it dont happen if the computer hasnt joined a domain.

My laptops were never on a network, but I think it was me that did something wrong. It couldn't possibly be a Microsoft glitch!!!!

The only other way you can achieve 'auto logon' is either you specify a blank password or downloading XP's Powertoys, you can specify a username and password to logon with.

 

If you were using XP Home, the only way to get the classic logon window is in Safe Mode. This is another Microsoft feature

You can do it straight inside the registry without the powertoys.

 

I use steadystate a lot and prefer the double ctrl alt del to get to hidden accounts. No normal person would even think of that if all they see is the welcome screen and one or two users.

 

If you did only have one account without a password on the welcome screen, it would auto logon i suppose. Even when there are other accounts.
