mjs_mjs Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 Hi, I have a sony digital data storage tape drive - 12GB native i think, it's a sony SDT-9000. It has a SCSI SE connector, and i want to put this in a server along with a SCSI card make by LSI. But i dont know if they're compatible. The tape drive came from another server but it had an adaptor on it and a different type of converter. I've attached pictures of these devices, my question is do i just need a 50 pin SCSI cable? apaton Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 If the you have an IDC 50 pin connector at both ends then you have a good chance of it working. 50pin IDC typically meant SCSI-2 SE (Single Ended) Which LSI SCSI Card is it ? check if its SCSI-2 SE. Other thing to remember with SCSI devices/cables is termination, either a jumper, resister pack or cable terminator will be needed. Andy 1

Well it has 8 oairs of jumpers, 3 for SCSI ID, currently set to ID 0, DC disabled, SCSI parity enabled, one pair not in use, Term power on, and termination enabled. In it's previous install, it was on a SCSI cable with multiple connectors and a terminator. Also had 2 other SCSI devices. Michael Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 From your pictures it looks to me the adapter is a 50pin to 68pin, so yes as far as I can see you just need a cable. Just remove that adapter.

mjs_mjs Posted October 18, 2009 Author Posted October 18, 2009 Looks fine, but do you need 24" of cable? yes; i have to get from the card to the tape drive - and i want to go around all the other stuff when i add 4 more drives, so would like to flatten it out up the side of the drives. the case is in the pic - need to go from the bottom PCI to the top drive space, the CD and tape will be swapped over.
