darbyshire Posted October 14, 2009 Posted October 14, 2009 on our schools website we have a jobs page which shows any content in the jobs section. On the old joomla box instead of having the huge url at the end of the website url. We have http://www.rosebridge.wigan.sch.uk/jobs (wont work) how can i do this? Thanks
mossj Posted October 14, 2009 Posted October 14, 2009 you need to turn short urls on in the global config... you will also need to use the .htaccess file supplied with the Joomla install.
Jamo Posted October 14, 2009 Posted October 14, 2009 I think you have to turn on the search engine friendly urls in the global config
Edu-IT Posted October 14, 2009 Posted October 14, 2009 This is one thing that I want and it won't work with EMBC because they use Windows servers without all the required bits and pieces. If it doesn't work on your host either you could just create the directory 'jobs' and then put a redirect script in there to send it to your Joomla URL.
darbyshire Posted October 14, 2009 Author Posted October 14, 2009 i have read around about the htaccess file when i do change set the friendly urls on and change the name of htaccess.txt to .htaccess i just get a internal 500 error. what would i have to change in the htaccess file?
EduTech Posted October 14, 2009 Posted October 14, 2009 download the .htaccess file to your local computer, and then just right click open with notepad :-) no need to change the file extension. once you have made the changes just re-upload the .htaccess file to your webserver. James.
darbyshire Posted October 15, 2009 Author Posted October 15, 2009 (edited) At the moment it is called htaccess.txt. it has never been .htaccess :s the file looks confusing to me what would i have to change? Edited October 15, 2009 by darbyshire
EduTech Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 take of the .txt so .htaccess.txt > .htaccess James.
darbyshire Posted October 15, 2009 Author Posted October 15, 2009 (edited) I have just spoke to the previous network manager who set up the old site. he has done a htm redirect. How would i go about setting this up? Peter Edited October 15, 2009 by darbyshire
mossj Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 (edited) Whats your server hosted on? To change the htaccess file, download it to your pc Open it in notepad Change the uncomment needed bits. Rename to .htaccess (unless it is already this) reupload Turn on SEO URL in joomla p.s could be wourth looking on Joomla forums - http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?t=185906 Edited October 15, 2009 by mossj
