TechSupp Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 I have just installed a second network card in to our server so that I could connect our nas backup disk to it directly (checked I could do this) but did not seem to have any sucess in getting the NAS to be discovered on the network. Gave the new card a static address just like the server original (with a different IP of course!), is there anything I should be doing different?

plexer Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 Is the server you've just installed that second card into a domain controller? If so you're going to have some issues. Ben
TechSupp Posted October 12, 2009 Author Posted October 12, 2009 Yep its the DC, the second card is not connected at the moment to anything, and when its is if thats possible it will only be direct to the NAS. What issues and is this not a good idea then?
TechSupp Posted October 12, 2009 Author Posted October 12, 2009 Tried cross over cable first but thats not the issue and checked with Iomega that the cable supplied was Ok to connect direct to the card and they said yes.

Its used puely for backup storage directly from the server, the document seems to say if its connected to an external network. Anyway I'll have to keep my eye on it and investigate further.
richardp Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 Mmm sounds to me like you are describing an iSCSI connection? Does the NAS support this ? If so then you need to make sure that the initiator software has been installed on the server ! Richard
plexer Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 I think even though it's only internal that your server will try and do dns lookups on both cards ip's round robin dns is the default. Ben
