GenieNitro Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 Hello there We have an OSX network (10.4 server) in our primary school and have recently bought a load of eeePCs running XP. So that the children can open/store files in a shared area, I have set up a user called eeePC on the network. I have set up a shortcut to the OSX network on each XP desktop which takes the user to the home folder of this 'eeePC' user. When clicking the shortcut for the first time after boot, a little username and password box appears, into which 'eeePC' must be typed for the user name and then the password entered. Everything is working fine to that extent but I was wondering if there was a way to automate this logging in, to speed up the kids getting to work! cheers Steve
Michael Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 Presumably you need to tweak permissions somewhere as it's prompting for a user/password?
p858snake Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 manually set a mapping to the drive, heres a little bit of info for net use which will do what you want (and can be scripted) Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600] (C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp. C:\Documents and Settings\XXX>net use /? The syntax of this command is: NET USE [devicename | *] [\\computername\sharename[\volume] [password | *]] [/uSER:[domainname\]username] [/uSER:[dotted domain name\]username] [/uSER:[username@dotted domain name] [/sMARTCARD] [/sAVECRED] [[/DELETE] | [/PERSISTENT:{YES | NO}]] NET USE {devicename | *} [password | *] /HOME NET USE [/PERSISTENT:{YES | NO}] 1
sted Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 if the password on the pc and server for that user match it should go straight through
SimpleSi Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 As per p858snake - the NET USE in a batch file that's in the All users Startup folder will do the trick to map a drive and then use the shortcut to point to the drive. regards Simon
