KWestos Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 My HP Proliant is informing me of a predictive hard drive failure (flashing amber light). I have a spare hard drive for this, should I wait until it stays on completely and fails or should I just unplug it (hotswap) and put the new one in. If I do unplug it, do I need to do anything in the RAID. When the drives usually go, I just swap out without doing anything else. I have a RAID 6 by the way
Guest Guest Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 Swap it now. RAID 6; great, you can even have another HD die while its rebuilding and you not lose anything. Well actually, try unplugging it, give it a blow off, and pop it back in. Ive seen raid cards moan about faulty HDs and this "cure" it.
KWestos Posted October 2, 2009 Author Posted October 2, 2009 Just put it in now and its rebuilding. I suppose I'm glad before it dies as it would of nagged me all weekend (has it or hasn't it) Cheers
