Exchange distribution lists

I’m setting up a Exchange 2003 distribution list so that the governors can be emailed via the school server following Create an E-Mail Distribution List

 

I’ve made a distribution list called governors but how do I add each email address to the list without creating a user for each governor

Don't the people need to be in a contact list/address book somewhere? Just a thought. Ignore if not helpful.

In AD create a new contact with the email address being the external address you want the mail to go to. Once you have done that go back to your distribution list and add the AD contact.

@Leco: No they will be emailed as a group and not individually

 

@mb2K01: I know I can do it that way but I wanted to avoid making a contact or user for each governor. Thanks anyway

What I meant was what was mb2K01 said. As I understand it in order to put a person into a Distribution list they have to be a contact in the first place. The Distribution list being a collection of contacts.

 

Sorry I wasn't very clear in my post - comes of doing it too quickly without thinking it through enough.

If your original post said that you wanted to avoid making a "user", where as a "contact" is different - it's just an entry on your exchange server that knows it's an authorised contact.

 

If for whatever reason you really don't want to have the governors listed as contacts in AD (and I can't think why not being that you can restrict message delivery etc), then just create an Outlook distribution list and copy it to the users whom you want to be able to access it?
