Wireless Bridging

Has anyone sucessfully bridged a network gap using buffalo APs?

 

One of my teachers has moved her 2 computers to far side of class and I've either to run a cable around the room (easy option) or since I was going to stick 4 APs around the school anyway I thought I'd try out the WDS wireless bridging facility of them (WHR-HP-G54).

 

I think it should be able to bridge from another AP (and still act as an AP for the classroom) but I don;t seem to be able to get a pair of them to bridge.

 

Do I need to make one (or both) dedicated to the task?

 

I've set them both to same channel, same wep key, registered each othe in WDS and normal MAC register but no luck

It was a long time ago, but I've done it. You have to dedicate the units to the bridge, you can't use them as access points at the same time (though I think some of the newer ones can do, so your mileage might vary).

Well - came back to the school today - changed the AP IPs from using DHCP reservations to static and they are happily bridging in non-dedicated mode.

 

Just need to see if I can using 15 laptops at the same time tin the classroom

we use 32 on one routor at the same time
