Been wanting to tattoo myself for years, now I've finally ordered the kit. Can't wait! Obviously will practice before I tattoo myself, but of course I'll get some pics up Maybe I'm getting old, but you have to be mad! Lock it away before you go out drinking! Some years ago, my sister had a lad working for her who was known as Yllib... he'd decided to tattoo his name on his forehead when drunk one night and did it while looking in the mirror... The result was not removable!
Hightower Posted September 29, 2009 Author Posted September 29, 2009 My Dad used to give himself tattoo's without a tattoo gun. Just used to get some indian ink and stab a needle in his arms loads of times. At least I'm not that mental!

Hightower Posted December 7, 2009 Author Posted December 7, 2009 Well, some of you wanted to see the results, and two months later here we are. I did my practicing on pig skin, and was ready for the task. Attached is my first ever tattoo on myself. It's not great, but its a damn site better than I expected. (By the way - the bottom is my thigh, and the top is my shin. Took it the wrong way round)

GrumbleDook Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 My Bro has been a tattooist's model previously and designed many himself (as a pretty good artist) and the best thing he ever suggested to someone getting into the art is to buddy up with someone else who also wants to learn. If you can get a decent local shop to allow you to use your kits but their sterilising setup it can help but you may need to write an agreement not to do it for x years as a business. Also try and get to one of the festivals (Dunstable was my fave) as most of the folk there are pretty helpful IME. Not got any myself ... designed a few and had a few designed for me but never got round to it now ... wanted to get a stable shape so that the art would not be ruined by my growth / training / fattening up (charting the years from 16 to present day ... guess which one I am now!)
