Until its a mandatory requirement to have a Chartered ICT person on board (like Accountants or Engineers) - I think this is doomed to irrelevance for the most part. And I sadly say that as a MBCS CITP, myself.

 

I would say that it is as irrelevant as you, a Member, make it. I for one, have spouted it to many recruiters and employers and once they understand what the Chartered award stands for they are generally supportive.

 

The new changes will not be for everyone and personally I expect that some Members will leave. However, given the vast number of peoplke working in IT there are many who can be convinced to support the Transformation.

I don't think that how it is viewed is down to me. I'm as happy to talk it up as anyone and have spent time on the local branch as an officer - but frankly, at employers and local firms, I was usually greeted with at best a shrug (even from the public sector) and at worst, complete ignorance.

 

As I've said before - for it to have value, it needs to be a mandatory requirement - you don't get to be an engineer because you played with lego, or a doctor after playing at doctors & nurses - but anyone can say they are an IT Professional after fiddling about on a PC at home - and as most of us know - its not the same thing at all.

Well my forms arrived today so once I have time I will knock up the CV - not written one of them since I applied for a job in McDonalds back when I was in sixth form.

 

My school application wasn't a CV but a form.

 

Any hints ppl? I should know this really but maybe I'll research online for ideas. Isn't it funny how skills are missing (I open myself up here) - being in the comfortable bosom of education has shielded me from what my mother would call 'the real world'.

I am a teacher and BCS member but gained this through my degree and started as a student member

 

however one of the lecturers on my PGCE gained charterd status through her work in education, though this was under the old requirements, I see no reason for you being able to gain professional staus through teaching if you teach tecnical enough qualifications. I'm thinking A-Level computing and to a certain extend the OCR nationals level 3 because they are of a much more technical nature than Applied A-level.

@spuffmonkey : I can just imagine the noise generated by the unions and many members here if I was to suggest to schools in my LA that the IT Manager should have chartered status. I don't think it would be a bad thing but might have to work out a number of equivalent accreditations. A point to discuss next week I think.
