karldenton Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 Anyone installed Ubuntu on a Samsung NC10 laptop? Does everything work OK ? The KA02UK is £299 in Comet so might get that and install Linux on it.
tech_guy Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 I purchased one last Thursday and stuck Ubuntu on it and everything worked okay as far as I could tell. It's now running Vista Business surprisingly well.
Fatmas Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 Those NC10's run Windows 7 really well if you fancied it. My housemate ran Ubuntu on his NC10 and I must say it ran like a dream. Everything seemed to just work too.
Martin Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 Check that it is the 6-cell NC10, as the last one i saw in Comet (with a half-price Norton offer) was just the 3-cell. Note that "KA02UK" isn't the full part number for the NC10 (never mind how many cells) and includes the N120 (NP-N120-KA02UK), N130 (NP-N130-KA02UK), N140 (NP-N140-KA02UK), N510 (NP-N510-KA02UK) as well as various NC10s! I think that the "02" bit is the colour? mb
Fatmas Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 Yeah, I wouldn't bother with the 3 cell battery. I've never used it but my 6 cell version lasts 5-8 hours depending on usage. Me and my housemate also found that the battery seems to last longer on Windows 7 than it does on Ubuntu.
cookie_monster Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 I've used Ubuntu netbook remix on my NC10 and Windows 7 both run very well. There was an issue with UNR but it was only minor if I remember it i'll post back.
karldenton Posted September 23, 2009 Author Posted September 23, 2009 Thanks guys. Think I might go get one at the weekend then and stick ubuntu on it. Read somewhere about a possible issue with the mouse pad thing. Was more worried about wifi drivers but as long as they work thats great. I take it is worth getting the RAM upgrade. Does Ubuntu allow 2GB ram ?
karldenton Posted September 23, 2009 Author Posted September 23, 2009 The one in comet at the moment is the 6 cell battery Buy SAMSUNG NP-NC10-KA02UK | 10.2" netbook - Specification | Comet
