Disappearing folders

I have a shiny new iMac thanks to a certain supermarket and it's customers. Now my network is vanilla Windows - following the info on here, the Mac has an account on the W2k8 server. I have users in Active Directory and they connect to home folders which are also on the Windows server. All hunky dory so far.

 

The first user I created can log on to the iMac, open it's home folder and happily create anything it wants. The next created user logs on, connects etc but on folder creation the folder icon immediately vanishes. It's there on the server but cannot be seen on the Mac.

 

I've obviously done something wrong, but don't know where. Any help would be appreciated as this is my first forray into the Mac world. Thanks.
