What printers do you use?

...I still say it's always worth paying the extra and getting a better printer, as if you say "we only have £X to spend now", well, you'll be spending a hell of alot more than that over the lifetime of the "cheap" printer!

It is worth doing your own maths based on usage though. My mate worked out by roughly how many pages he does, that fine the belt claimed to do something like 50K prints, but that's 4 passes a page (unless you print everything on black setting on the driver) thus divide it by 4 and your down to 12,500 pages before that needs to be done, we didn't look up the drum or waste box.

 

I'm by no means saying the brother is a bad printer, or that style is bad, I myself have 2 Samsung Colour Lasers at home both have separate drums, belts, wastes etc and for my use I will change the printer when they go as for me a 4000 page toner lasts around two years+ so its not a problem and thus the drums, belts etc will last "a life time" as it were and thus once gone will probably get a new printer, but for an IT Room where you may go through 1000 pages a week at peak times (at a guess!) you will soon whizz through 12,500 pages and need another £200 for a new belt or drum and thus the £40 toners are no longer cheap, VS the HP that has built in drums on each cartridge and a new one each time with no other parts to change so its £60 cartridges looks much cheaper in the long run.

 

Basically do the maths on paper first and work it out, also I don't like the idea of exposed drums and belts + children / teachers with pointy objects = tears of why is the printer putting marks / gaps on everything
