Exploring Science Problem

We have software titles Exploring Science 7,8 and 9 but are having trouble getting the activeteach and activebook modules to work. They work fine on machines which are a clean install and have no group policy. But on machines which are locked down we just get the hour glass showing when they are run. Been on to tech support but they are dragging their feet on this.

 

Anyone come across this and could offer a resolution, much appreciated.

I would probably wager that they arent geared towards locked down user's, and most likely, arent designed with non-admin users in mind.

 

As a start, try giving the install location INTERACTIVE = Full Control [you may need to use Everyone instead] permissions - along with any Application Data, and appropriate key in Local Machine & Current User registry hives.

Not ideal but do you have a VLE that you can load them on to? The SCORM packages are pretty good.

 

Obviously a local install would be better but if you don't want to go to the lengths of changing permissions etc then it's a workaround.

Thanks for the suggestions, have tried the permissions route (won't even run as an administrator, which I kinda think is strange) and the LEA VLE does not seem capable of supporting VLE packages. I gave this and other progs a year ago to the VLE but they just won't put them on, doesn't look good for our VLE does it! Maybe I could set up my own internal VLE just to host these type of packages. Any suggestions for a quick and easy internal VLE setup?

Ours are running okay on a locked down system... trying to work out why as its a while since I sorted it. Is there another file on their website that you substitute to get it working on the network... it rings a bell.

I have this running but the animations when you click words (such as absorbed) don't display? Just the play button.

 

I have flash and shockwave installed.

 

Any ideas?

Do you use software restriction policies threw AD, all the active teach programs create files in %temp%

 

If you do, use a program like FolderMonitor to see what files are created and removed when its running and add them to your software restriction list.
