Windows 7 & Geforce 9800GT+ASUS P5Q-EM

Right, strange one really...

 

Built a new PC, with ASUS P5Q-EM Motherboard, Intel E6300 Processor, Geforce 9800GT Graphics, 4GB RAM.

 

Install Windows 7, but it gets no further than the "splash" screen at the start of Windows, and doesn't go into Windows.

 

Take the Geforce graphics card out, and use the onboard, Fine!

 

I tried Vista, this worked fine... It just doesn't seem to like 7, tried both x86 and x64.

 

It seems very strange that it doesn't seem to like the 9800GT, any ideas?

The only thing I have actually thought of, just as I've finished typing this out, is try a Geforce card in that I do know works with 7, install the NVIDIA drivers for that card, and then try the 9800GT again...

Odd one. There's nothing inherently wrong with nVidia cards with w7. Using a similar setup - an 8800GT (identical hardware to your 9800) on an Asus P5K (last generation motherboard). Transport is entirely identical throughout, leading me to believe there's something else wrong.

 

Worth giving the driver trick a go. May be worth getting into W7 using your onboard and using a driver cleaner to clean out anything that might be causing an issue :/

use the onboard graphics then install the driver ( unless it prompts and says the hardware is not on your system or something like that then in which case ) you may have to try and boot into safe mode when you have the nvidia installed and see if that will allow you to get into safe mode to install the driver maybe ?

 

If not is it possible to use something like bart pe to slipstream the nvidia driver into the windows 7 install disc ?

 

I don't suppose there are any motherboard firmware updates are there ?

Got this sorted by the way...

 

Put my 8600GT in from my other PC (which worked fine), installed NVidia drivers, and then put 9800GT back in... and everything is ok

 

Now time to get another 4GB mem kit methinks....

Umm....

 

Seems I spoke too soon... Fired PC up this morning, and same problem.

I'll try a Bios update, and report back.

 

I'll leave the 8600GT in for the time being.
