Is there a way that anybody knows how to convert recordings on Sky Plus onto my external hard drive using the USB port on the sky plus box? if not what are the USB ports for?

There is a program that claims to do this. It is not kept up to date but I remember the website. I will see if I have it bookmarked at home.

Allthough that won't extract recordings for you.

Extract will do FTA ones.

Subscription channels which are recorded are still encrypted on the h/d and then decrypted in real time while watching just like anything else.

Also if you want to install a up to 1TB hard drive in your sky+ box you can use copy+ to format it before you install it otherwise you have to use 500GB or smaller drives.

There are some programs available that will allow you to copy the files off the Sky+ box onto a PC but they will still be encrypted. You cannot legally decrypt these files to allow them to be played back on a PC however.
