VGA Cable - securing to new notebooks

We have some new HP notebooks connected to SmartBoards and I notice the new standard VGA port seems to have done away with the traditional screws which used to secure the cable? OK for now but I'm thinking that down the road a while after the cable has been taken off and attached a many few times the connection is going to become a bit loose. Any suggestions round this one please?

Had a similar problem with this, and for the life of me don't understand why laptops are now removing the screws to be able to firmly attach cables.

 

We just decided in the end wrap two layers of cling film over the edge and squeeze the connection on, at least then it does come off, but not as easily.

I think that's a pain but it probably has something to do a) shaving costs, b) people moving their laptop without unplugging the cable.

Have a search for VGA port saver. A little attachment that connects into the existing port. You then connect the cable into this. If the attachment becomes damaged you just replace this and not the whole motherboard! They typically cost a couple of quid each.

Oh and just to suggest there's also, those USB hubs that you can hook everything local into and then just connect to a laptop via USB. I may be thinking ahead of myself but I was sure I saw something like that, that didn't require a VGA cable connection too.

Yep, Targus do a great USB docking station that carries Video out too, so the only thing you need to plug into the laptop is one USB plug. Works great!
