Why does everyone but me press C + A + D to lock workstation!

I think my job is just getting to me too much, but sat in a bank this afternoon (Great way to spend my final day off work until October at the earliest now!!), I hated the way the member of staff kept pressing Ctrl + Alt + Del before clicking 'Lock Workstation' to lock their workstation every time they left the room.

 

I just kept wanting to shout "Windows key and L!!!".

 

Same with the staff at work...

Because that's what they've learned, and it works for them and they're happy with it. It's really not such a big deal, surely?

Because the C-A-D preceded Windows keys and the meme has stuck. Plus you don't necessarily have them on all keyboards so you need to know how e.g. this Dell laptop doesn't.

When I was at college, the Windows key was disabled. None of the IT support staff could/would say why.

Is it really so long since you used Windows 2000? Win+L wasn't until XP. All those poor people are probably using something old and nasty

I don't care how our staff lock a workstation... if they did it in the first place I'd be pretty impressed lol especially in the damn IT suite with sims open.... argh

I must admit I rarely use windows key shortcuts, it's always CTRL-ALT-DEL and then K or just hit the space bar (as it's the first option.)

 

I've always done it like that, dunno why just habit I suppose.

When I was a student, right clicking was disabled in most contexts. Nobody's ever given me a good reason for that either

But some people (like us) do things like lesson registration and behaviour managment in SIMS thus we need it in every classroom either on a teacher laptop or PC

Same here, we use it in every classroom so we can start the live reporting to parents over the next year.

 

You just need education of users, teach them the shortcuts and reap the benefits!

I think many people here will have it disabled too - including me! Right click opens up far too many opportunities for student mischief!
