thom Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 I need to get a laptop for a fussy teacher that has a shiny screen. I have seen Acer do CrystalBrite displays, that is the kind of thing she is after. Does anyone know of another brand. I think Sony do them too but we only have a £600 budget
StewartKnight Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 got this sony for £570 ex VAT, and it's really sexy!!
thom Posted August 11, 2006 Author Posted August 11, 2006 Thanks for that. I hate to rub it in but you could have paid £55 less for the same laptop at http://www.theitindex.co.uk I discovered while browsing In addition, the anti-reflective technology marketed as Acer CrystalBrite is identical to the anti-reflective technology being marketed as Sony XBRITE, HP Compaq BrightView and Toshiba TruBrite. (source http://www.screentekinc.com/acer-crystalbrite-lcd-screens.shtml) Hope that helps some more recommendations, especially for Pentium/AMD 64 CPUs
renegade Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 Stone do them with the glass front for <450. They are badged Stone but they are actually.... bugger can't remember....... but are a major brand. At the end of the day, unless this teacher is gonna poke their finger through the screen there is no need for a glass front, thats just being petty or picky, ok tis a teacher, enough said. BUT if you could persuade them to drop that request, then go for a Toshiba without doubt!! The warranties on these are just crazy!! 3yr Accidental damage and they replace it, 3yr normal warranty and they replace it PLUS GIVE YOU YOUR MONEY BACK!!!! We have a suite of these and they are spot on, very quick compared to the equivalent Dells that we have, but that warranty is surely the craziest you will ever get. Get it while you can. Look them up, they probably have a glass front option!
elsiegee40 Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 I'm amazed a school can afford to do this for a picky memer of staff. It's one thing accomodating SEN or disability... everyone else gets what they're given (it's what the machine does that's most important IMO) HTs and EduGeeks invariably get what they want though
MkII Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 (edited) You can get Dell lappys with shiny (truelife) screens for a little bit extra usually (about £17). Their C2D 1.4/ 2Gb/ 120Gb Vostro's are £316 with 1yr warranty inc delivery and vat (takeaway 17.5% - I couldn't be assed ) (I know you'd want the full warranty probably for sch but just asan example) Edited January 21, 2008 by MkII
dbrown Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 I've got Toshiba SP A200 and P200 both with shiny screen (which I hate!) P200 was too expensive, but A200 seemed a fair price. I don't know why anyone wants the shiny screen. Yes it's a nice bright, good contrast picture, but reflections are a terrible problem.
fazzyboy Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 Hi, i am actually selling my Sony Vaio VGN-C2z/B laptop. It has the X-black shiny screen. It is high spec: Intel Core2duo 2GB RAM 120GB Hard Drive Dedicated NVidia Geforce Graphics Card Vista Home Premium etc... I am only looking for £375 for it because i am desperate need of some cash at the moment. I am in birmingham.
WStore_Dan Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 I have a feeling he no longer requires this seeing as his post was around 2 1/2 years ago? I could be wrong!
