djgreek Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 Hi I am very new I need to install software to 500 laptops Can anyone give me instruction or a guide thanks
ngreenwood Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 You need to find or create an MSI file for the software you are trying to install. Then google GPO software installation.
kmount Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 Hi, welcome to Edugeek. If you get/make MSI's for the needed software then we can talk about how to allocate them. Do you already have GPO's in place to lockdown/configure your workstations? 1
djgreek Posted August 29, 2009 Author Posted August 29, 2009 I use gpo for proxy settings and favourites and microsoft updates
kmount Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 Ok, so you'll know the difference between Computer and User Configuration from within the GPO then? In most circumstances I'd imagine you'd want to do this from within the Computer configuration so the applications are all installed prior to the user wishing to use them? Computer Configuration > Software Settings > Software Installation Do you have some software title names in particular that some people here may have had experience with to offer some advice? 1
djgreek Posted August 29, 2009 Author Posted August 29, 2009 Thanks for all the help i intend to install flash player updates codecs scartch tuxs maths tuxs typing
kmount Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 You're very welcome. Flash Player is no problem as long as you apply for the license here. I recently deployed Tux Maths and Tux Typing at a site using MSI so that's ok too. I've not used Scratch so can't comment there, again depending upon which codecs etc. Should be relatively straight forward I'd imagine. Good luck! 1
Cache Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 Scratch deployed fine using an MSI here, akthough one other way of doing it is just copying the files to a share and running them from there. 1
sted Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 vista codec pack can be deployed via msi quite easily Shark007.net - Vista Codec Package 1
