Wireless NIC drivers for Vista

Hi there

 

I have recently rebuilt my machine but am not sure on what make and model of wireless NIC i have installed, Vista cannot find them automatically for me so i was wondering if anyone know's if there is a way i can find out what card is installed.

whats the model and make of the motherboard ?

Might be easiest just to pop the lid off and have a look. Desktop or Laptop?

It's a desktop, I have taken the NIC out and it's and fairly sure the manufacturer is edup but not sure what model it is.

Does it have an 'FCC ID' number on it? If so bang that into google.

Go into device manager, find the driverless card, right click and then properties.

 

go to the details tab and choose "hardware IDs" - you'll get a list of stuff looking like:

PCI\VEN_1234&DEV_5678

 

The 1234 bit is the vendor code; the 5678 is the specific device.

 

Now go to PCI Vendor and Device Lists and enter the vendor code and look it up; separately, enter the device code and look it up. There might be more than one 5678 (example!!) but knowing the vendor from the first bit you've now got "who made it" and "what it is"

 

If it's something like Intel the drivers will be easy. If it's something like "Joe Bloggs manufacturing, China" then it may be harder but at least you know what it is :-)

At the moment when i boot my machine up it tries to install the hardware, when i ask it to automatically install the hardware and drivers it cannot find the drivers (hence the whole problem lol). Would i be able to install the hardware without the drivers?

 

At the moment the device does not appear in my device manager.

cancel the potential install of drivers then revert to the above post for vendor ID ect and post on here and I'm sure we can find them for you,

ok going from the vendor device, it says the vendor is atheros, doesn't seem to be able to find the device though.Anyone hsve any idea how i upload a screenshot?

Call me daft as you already covered it via device manager but I normally tend to use something like one of the following

 

everest home edition or SIW ( SIW | System Information for Windows by Gabriel Topala )

 

Can find both via google
