Google Earth can't run through proxy?

We have some new notebooks which I'm trying to install Google Earth on. All seems to go OK - file downloads and starts to run but eventually fails with a suggestion that it's a Firewall blocking issue. Windows Firewall was not activated. Activated it an added both the installer and downloader - still the same problem?

 

Would it be some sort of exception I need to add along with the proxy exception?

We had a similar problem. I made it an exception in the proxy settings then configured the firewall to allow all traffic to google.

That's a little strange. As far as I know, Google Earth uses port 80 which should be open anyway?

The installer downloads the relevant install files from Google. If you only want to allow access to the specific Google sites you'll need access to: http://cache.pack.google.comcache.pack.google.com/edgedl/earth/client/* and

http://tools.google.com/service/update2

 

If you're not using your own ISA/firewall/etc check whether your LEA/ISP/LGFL/whatever is blocking these, then add you own exceptions, if you can (you can with LGFL).

We use Authentication so it will be probably kicking off with that.

Problem persists. Can run Google Earth no problem on Fujitsu Siemens computers but it fails on HP with an error code 0x80072ee2 which refers to MS update issues?

Must be a simple solution to this one? Yesterday I took one of the troublesome HP notebooks home and succesfully downloaded Google Earth to it. Interestingly, it also pulled in a load of SmartBoard updates whilst on my home broadband.

 

Back to the school - tried another HP notebook and the failed to download Google Earth continues.

 

Mindful that I have recently succesfully downloaded Google Earth at work on a Fijitsu Siemens desktop I still added the exceptions to our SWGfL filters and tried the notebook half an hour later but still no download nor did it pick up the SmartBoard updates which came to it's sister notebook on my home broadband.

 

I have run this by the support folk at SWGfL but it's as much a mystery to them as it is to me!

Does the same problem happen in both DirectX and OpenGL modes? You can access these on the Start Menu. If it works on some other machines I'm hesitating whether it's a graphics driver issue possibly?

 

What version are you using? Have you tried downloading the June 2009 version? Works fine for me.

Thanks for all your help and suggestions folks. Problem sorted now, turned out to be related to the Google Installer needing proxy setting added in itself.
