I have suite of 30 mac minis which I have imaged from the same image using Netrestore

Each mac mini is configured to daul boot between Leopard and XP

All mac mini's are bound to active directory. All is working OK.

I have renamed the mac mini's before joining to active directory.

When the mac mini boots to Leopard OS and the log in screen appears, it shows the old computername.I have tried changing the name but on reboot the old name still appears on the log in screen.I enabled the root account and used a plist editor to try and change the name in the following plists:-

/library/preferences/system configuration/com.apple.smb.server.plist

/library/preferences/system configuration/preferences.plist/system and network

Any help would be appreciated:drunken_smilie::drunken_smilie:

system preferences --> sharing

There should be a text field at the top where you can rename the computer

Thanks for replying

Web link to script seems to be dead

Thanks

The wiki has gone mad and vanished its existance!!!

EDIT: We are going to either hunt it down or I will re-write the wiki page tomorrow... it's a great script though! It changes the three computer names that macs have, joins OD and joins AD! :)

Hi everyone

The problem with the old computer name appearing on the log in screen is driving me crazy.

I have tried the script and also changed the name in system preferences/sharing to no avail

I have even deleted the following two plist files:-

/library/preferences/systemconfiguration/com.apple.smb.server.plist

/library/preferences/system configuration/preferences.plist

On reboot the old name appears on the logon screen before you log in.

Where is this old name coming from?

Using Leopard 10.5 dual booting with XP

Any help would be appreciated

Regards

Howdy ^^

This will not change the name but you could perhaps stop it from displaying it or change it to display something else using a freeware utility called 'deeper' to reconfigure the advanced hidden settings of the login window.

It can be found on the apple.com website under 'all downloads' and then the disk / system utilties section.

I'm pretty much a noob with these macs so I can't help you at the moment. Give me 6 months or so ^^

Deeper has helped me remove any accounts from being displayed at the login window (network, local and admin), and set a message for our end user agreement policy etc. It has lots of other features too. Handy little app.
