One of my schools is in the process of being refurbished which when completed the site and network will be shared with three other parties.

What would be needed to share a 10Mb internet connection but keep all four networks separate? I’m sure the answer has something to do with VLANS but I have limited knowledge of networking and I don’t know how it would be put together :confused:

We have a similar setup in one of our buildings but rather than different people we have a server suite, the building LAN and a few other things like that running using a Watchguard Firebox, its either a Peak or Core we use with multiple ports and different VLANs setup on it. There are a few ways you could do it. It would be interesting to see what other people bring up.

Yeah VLAN would be your better option, just put a VLAN capable Switch on each Site which would go back too your Router which provides the internet connection. pretty sure that would be the better way and at least you have more control and its secure :)

Internet > Router >

....................... > VLAN - Site 1

....................... > VLAN - Site 2

....................... > VLAN - Site 3

....................... > VLAN - Site 4

The easiest way for you would be to put another NIC in the ISA server then create a network in ISA then set a firewall rule to only allow traffic to external from that NIC.

Also doing it this way you can allow traffic from other networks onto yours if you ever need to.

Thanks, but I'm after a whole site solution.

I agree with Edutech that a VLAN is required here.

@EduTech:

Sorry little confused here... which VLAN would the router be in?

The router isn't in any vlan as such but the connection is shared over the 4 vlans.

So the way its configured here, for two vlans, is that the router plugs into port 1, ports 2->X are for vlan 1 and ports X->Y are for vlan 2 but all shared the internet connection from the router.
