Hi

I have been given a couple of stand alone laptops from a neighbouring high school. Before logging on the user has to accept the AUP. I would like to change some of the text such as the school name and adjust a couple of the statements to make them more suitable for the primary school I work at.

Does anybody know how I can do this?

Thanks Ali

Sorry but I followed these steps and nothing changed. Has anybody got any other suggestions?

The instructions give a non-existent part of the registry. It says locate "HKEY_CURRENT_MACHINE" but the only options are "HKEY_CURRENT_USER" or "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE". I'm surprised that the site owner hasn't amended this. Maybe it hasn't been brought to his/her attention.

The 'proper' place to change this is:

Start > Run > gpedit.msc > Computer Config > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Local Settings > Security Options

Interactive logon: Message text for users attempting to log on

Interactive logon: Message title for users attempting to log on

OR

Control Panel > Admin Tools > Local Security Policy > Local Policies > Security Options

I know GPO just changes registry settings but I thought it a bit odd that they were trying to do this directly in the registry as I re called using GPO to apply these settings before

Editing the registry is OK, but you can easily and accidentally make wrong changes to the registry. Much harder to do this with a GPO.

GPO is good if you have a domain; these are standalone laptops so no domain.

You can obviously use regedit or gpedit to make the changes. I'd guess the quickest way is to get a .reg file and import it to each machine.

Just a quick question. When I am inputing the text how do I create a new line. I can see some rectangles which clearly do this job but I am unable to copy and paste these into the rest of the text.

I see I can do this following the most recent instructions but am intrigued as to how to do it using the first method

Thanks in advance

you can use the local security policy snap in to do it can't you ?

If not then as you said make sure the registry settings are correct and create a reg file with those settings and apply it using a reg file ( by exporting the registry key or keys )
