[ms office - 2007] Equation Editor

Staff are complaining that the version bundled with 2007 is rubbish and want to know if they can have the previous version of Equation Editor from Office 2003... I don't believe this is possible is it?

For general instructions on installing other components of Office 2000, XP, and 2003, To add Equation Editor:

 

1.Insert the first Office CD into your CD-ROM drive.

 

 

2.From the Start menu, select either Control Panel, or Settings and then Control Panel.

 

 

3.Double-click the Add/Remove Programs (or Add or Remove Programs) icon.

 

 

4.Locate the Microsoft Office entry that corresponds to what you have installed and click once to highlight it. For example, if you have Office XP, locate Microsoft Office XP Professional and select it.

 

 

5.Click Change.

 

 

6.When the Office installation window opens, select Add or Remove Features, and then click Next.

Note: For Office 2003, you may see the "Custom Setup" screen at this point. Check Choose advanced customization of applications, and then click Next.

 

7.Next to Office Tools, click the + (plus sign) once. Click Equation Editor, and then select Run from Computer.

 

 

8.Click Continue. When Equation Editor has finished installing, click OK

I've tried that from an Office 2003 CD, and installed only the Equation Editor.. it completes ok, but does not appear anywhere in Office 2007. Is it possible to add components from different versions of Office? Not something I've ever tried before, as I just assumed it wouldn't be...

Might be harder initially but the best solution would probably be to get the teacher to explain why they don't like it. Use prompting if nessisary "You don't like it because...".

 

Once you know what their issues are it can probably be cleared up by a bit of training or a training document. Any complaints can be dealt with by pointing them at the training and telling them to learn.

 

Windows 7 has a really great maths input method built in called the math input pannel so depending on if you are modernising your OS in the near future this could be looked at also.

I don't think the 2003 and 2007 equation editors are compatible - for instance, Word 2007 can't edit equations embedded in .doc documents.

 

We use FX equation , which is not too expensive and integrates very nicely with word and is much easier to use than equation editor. the same company also makes similar editors for chemical equatiosn etc - also very nice.
