RabbieBurns Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Is there a livecd that has a decent AV built in that will automatically boot, use dhcp to get networking, and then start up sshd or RDP as default? Im looking for something that the user can just pop the cd in the drive and not have to do anything else.
kmount Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 You could probably customise knoppix or ubcd to do something like this for you. Mind you, you'd need a method of then displaying the IP so you can tell them to configure their router or whatever to let you in if its for remote use. Ponders... 1

Im going to get them take machines to the one location so they will always be plugged into a network which i have full vpn access to. I had thought about teamviewer etc but that will involve some user interaction at the other end.

Ive got one who says their computer is so riddled windows hardly works, sO i figured if they drop it off at my folks house, i can get someone there to just put cd in, power and network, and thats all. I dont want to be having to use a live cd of say ubuntu, and then install clam or whatever each time Do you have a link for the thinstation?
Ric_ Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Sorry, I thought you wanted a disc that could launch an RDP client... you actually need a disc that will launch a SSH server or RDP server.

RabbieBurns Posted July 27, 2009 Author Posted July 27, 2009 SYNACK do you happen to have the link to the part 2 of the guide for windows? Ive managed to make the CD, it boots, and it gets the IP ive programmed it, but I cant seem to see if VNC is running or not..
SYNACK Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 Umm, I don't think that it was ever written, I found the original source A Windows Recovery Live-CD for AMT-VPro - Part I but he never seems to have written part two. From the looks of it though it does cover all of the building steps for the CD. It does rely on the CD having the correct NIC drivers though so if they are not included it would not work. You should be able to try the cd locally in a VM to see how it boots up and if it fails anywhere. If all goes well with the booting it should be avalible through the hostname that it is given in the config file. RabbieBurns Posted July 27, 2009 Author Posted July 27, 2009 Its been in a VM i have been testing. IT boots fine, and has the IP I programmed into it. I can ping the IP etc, just not connect to the VNC. Those steps you just posted are actually incorporated into the original document I followed. Ill do it again, maybe I missed a step or something.
