Oh and by the way DMcCoy when you purchase your Cisco switch with a cisco registered supplier you get all the firmware upgrades and lifetime warranty as well, most switch manafacturers are going down this (forgive the pun) route.

 

You do? Thats not at all like their routers is it. I assumed it would be the same with the ios on the switches. I'm quite supprised by this, not at all like cisco 8O

I am equipping our new facility with Netgear ProSafe GSM7248 switches. 10/100/1000, managed and with an excellent price tag. I will write a little review of these when I have used them for a little while.

Apparently they have smart routing routines built in so that traffic is diverted by the most efficient route. Nice.

Its the 24 port version of the ones I'm getting. Mine are 48 port.

I use Netgear GS748T Smart Switches here and find that they are really good. They are not a full blown managed switch as such but that does us fine.

I've been happy with the procurve switches I have had. Would avoid Dlink like the plague.

 

Have had a procurve work fine at gigabit speeds with a total no-namer. Could be cabling issues?

I was using the unmanaged Netgear (FS524) at the edge of the network, but have found these failing after 2-3 years. So have been replacing the failures with HP 2524 switches. I've had HP 4108 at the core, connected to HP 2524 for gigabit backbone for the past the 6 years without probs.

I am still liking the Netgear Stuff, and it is now coming with a lifetime warranty (yes like the other big names)

 

I have also been accepted as a powershift reseller, it means I can get priority support for my "customers" so long as I phone up for it etc, so I get things sorted in super quick time
