The question is. Is it worth the extra £40 for the Pro version as I won't be using it on a domain so the only other immidiate benefit is the slightly improved backup that i'm not that fond of anyway.

Features

Which one is right for you?

Automatic backup only works with NTFS (I believe). So I can't use it.

I don't have a domain at home

So only real thing would be Windows XP Mode, which means a bit pointless and not worth an extra £40.

Me things next pc will have Windows 7 Home Premium

I'd want pro for the remote desktop host, got used to it on XP tho I suppose you can cheat and use UltraVNC.

I'm a bit annoyed tho that Bitlocker to go isn't in professional and you need to buy Ultimate for it >.<

List of features if you need it

I posted the MS feature list at the top cheers though not quite such a comprehensive one.

I don't think i'll need remote desktop on my netbook but i'll keep that in mind for my new desktop.

The missing bitlocker is a PITA I know you can use a free product but I think that's a feature MS should include by default.

I've got the Home Premium coming for my media centre box, no point in having backup and XP mode for that really (Well backup maybe but I can get Acronis for 23 quid or so!)

the pre order version is a retail boxed meaning i can transfer it between pcs in the future isnt it? that way i can shove pc/laptop to win 7 now then when i replace them (mainly the pc) i can hove vista back on that and move the lic to my new tower

I went for Premium at home, Pro in work.

By the way - I noticed that Amazon and Ebuyer are selling them cheaper than the other sites.

Well that didn't last long the home version is now £70 and Pro is £180 :(

The MS site did say quantities were limited, so I guess they've already sold their allocation of £50 ones. The price will go from £70 to £150 on release day, and up again in January 2010. Rather pleased with the £45 I paid now :-)
