Quick question for you graphics types. If you were working on a half-page magazine ad, what resolution would be sensible to avoid pixelated text etc...? They've said they can take most filetypes (mentioned JPG and PDF) - what would be best...? (It'll probably be prepared in Photoshop CS.)

I create JPG from an actual size document at 1500 dpi which is probably overkill, but han't yet been turned down or caused a problem. Leaves me with a file size of 4-6 Meg

I'm guessing at half an A4 page for your ad. So this would be 2480px x 1754px @ 300dpi

If you know the size of the ad then just make a new doc in PS to that size at 300dpi then save as an eps / Photoshop PDF. Also remember to work in CMYK rather than RGB for print work

I'm sure when I've prepared things for press I create the pictures as .tif at the minimum 300dpi. I make sure they are CMYK.

If you are using InDesign (or I assume any other pro DTP package) then remember to 'pre-flight' your document so that all the links, colours, fonts are checked etc. We've never had a problem doing this.
