wesleyw Posted July 10, 2006 Posted July 10, 2006 Okay I have another problem. I've actually managed to sort out the Active Desktop with scripts running in the background etc but (There's always a but) I would like to remove all of the desktop icons and just have the shortcuts i've setup in a shared folder. I have got the shared folder and active deskotp working and I've removed all but Outlook from the desktop there doesn't seem to be any way of doing this in GPO because if you "Hide and disable all items on the desktop" it also stops the Active Desktop htm page as well! Any ideas? Wes
mac_shinobi Posted July 10, 2006 Posted July 10, 2006 how is the outlook icon put onto the desktop is it just a case of its in the All users folder in c:\documents and settings or what exactly ? If its in the all users local profile then what about getting one of the scripts to just delete it if it exists using the fso ?
wesleyw Posted July 10, 2006 Author Posted July 10, 2006 Nope check the all users and default users folders outlook isn't in them? Not sure where its coming from TBH. Wes
wesleyw Posted July 10, 2006 Author Posted July 10, 2006 I've just checked and its a namespace link there is a script to delete it at logon but I'm wondering whether or not there is a better workaround? Wes
wesleyw Posted July 11, 2006 Author Posted July 11, 2006 Already in place still the icon won't leave Wes
wesleyw Posted July 11, 2006 Author Posted July 11, 2006 I think it will take a registry change for it to go away so I may just nt install outlook and find another client! Wes
SpuffMonkey Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 Already in place still the icon won't leave Wes Oh - it doesn't appear on our screens after redirection

plexer Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 Can you not make a transform for the msi that installs outlook to remove the icon? Do you users use outlook then? if not just don't install it? Ben
wesleyw Posted July 11, 2006 Author Posted July 11, 2006 Where in the installation options would the ability to not install the icon be? Thanks Wes
NetworkGeezer Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 @WeslyWoo Are you using Windows 2000 Pro. By Defaul Windows XP has no desktop icosn other than the Recycle Bin. Outlook will also appear on the sticky section of the Start Menu
wesleyw Posted July 11, 2006 Author Posted July 11, 2006 Nope Windows 2003 R2 on the servers and XP SP2 on the clients. Wes
