I would definitely get one over her and take it across. Anything electrical over there is a fortune. what will she be using it for?

I have a Lenovo SL500. I'd highly recommend it as a (reletively) light and reliable laptop.

With Lenovo you pay a little extra but get what you pay for.

Again i would also recommend a Lenovo, as DB says they are a little more pricey but you just cant beat them. and if it might get knocked about at least you know its going to stay in one piece.

If you would prefer something a tad cheaper, then HP's are pretty well built (the business notebooks)

Give Simon at CP a call or PM i am sure he could hunt you something down, he's pretty good at getting HP kit (he might be able to find you something from lenovo range too ;) so you can compare )

I would take a long hard look at warranty support as part of any decision making process. Having an international warranty is to be recommended, but make sure it includes Egypt. You want an EMEA warranty.

I would also echo the sentiments about Lenovo, I would even suggest you look for a late model Thinkpad T or X series depending upon what size you are looking for. Some dealers might have old stock available at a good price.
