Computer to Pupil Ratio Criteria

Hi,

 

Does anyone have link to the BECTA page(s) that provide the criteria regarding computer to pupil ratios in the secondary sector?

 

I seem to recall reading on their site that PCs five years old could not be included but I can no longer find it.

I can only go by the Oxfordshire guidelines, which seem to want a 1:1 ratio, but the only requirement is that the "device" can connect and be used with a VLE.

 

Otherwise I'm seeing a required 5:1 ratio required for Secondary schools, with "Older systems if they are able to make a significant contribution to the curriculum"

 

Thats from ICT Curriculum Support Team and is possible a bit dated.

IIRC, the age limit has been lifted on computer:pupil ratios, instead you can count any PC so long as it performs a task necessary for the curriculum delivery.

 

So if you have a department who still have an Acorn, BBC Micro or Spectrum for a specific application on it, you can count it :-)

does anyone have any information on the ratios required for primary schools?, i have heard from the SMT that we will need to be around a ratio of 1 computer per 2 pupils, in the next two years.

can anyone shed anymore light on this

I've looked around on the becta site and can't find the latest recommendations, but I would doubt primaries would require 1:2. Secondary schools now only require 1:4 currently.
