Recover iSCSI?

Currently we backup data to shares on Buffalo TeraStation NAS. We're looking to buy an additional Buffalo TeraStation and I noticed that they now do one that supports iSCSI.

 

We're running Windows 2003. To backup we would install the MS iSCSI initiator on the Windows server and then connect and mount the TeraStation as a drive so that it shows up in Disk Management. The drive would then be partitioned and formatted and could then be used to backup to.

 

What happens if the Windows server has a hardware failure? Would it be possible to mount the iSCSI drive on another machine to retrieve the data? I've googled this, but can't seem to find an answer.

Shouldn't see why not, if it’s just a plain NTFS file system and only mounted on one server at a time should work a treat.

Yup you would just mount it to another box and then you can access the files from it nice and easily Think of it as mapping a shared drive from it just using an iSCSI connector instead of Mapped Drives.
