Is this mandatory for SEGfL?

About 10 minutes to smashing it with a hammer.:bowl:

We are SEGfL and we don't even have one! (although we do use RM Safetynet +)

I might have to see whether we can upgrade, I was told by the last IT manager it'd be upgraded to a Sophos product but no sign of that happening yet, can't be mandatory then!

I want to, have got one of my staff to go through a demo with one of the nice ladies @ smoothwall - budget is very slim this year but i had budgeted for a beefy server to replace the old proxy server we have... currently, the setup is MS Proxy Server forwarding to the CachePilot (causes issues with Ajax heavy sites)... wasn't my idea but they did it to keep the cachepilot on it's own subnet so kids/staff couldn't bypass the default gateway and forward requests although they could have done it a different way!

I really, really want SmoothWall or at worst, WebMarshal - finding it difficult to justify out of my tiny bucket of funds :-(

iv heard that you should be getting your sophos box this summer. give david a ring to find out whats happening. also i think beachwood school are using smooth wall might be worth giving steve a call. cachepiliots are not needed as they are not used in windsor and maindenhead.

We had to put Sophos on the 10.13 range and forward to the easynet range, everything is ok at the moment except we have 170 more laptops to deal with and more students. Just getting everything ready for upcoming term now... fun.

What are you doing at the moment?

We just put in the Sophos box, it's working perfectly now... hooray.

Sorry to bump this old thread but which Sophos box did you upgrade to?

I'm having a nightmare with the cachepilot since it was upgraded to the latest firmware and want to buy in a new solution.

*cough* *cough* - may I be of assistance, sir? :) Seriously - if you want to know about what we can do - get in touch. I'm always lurking - or the phone/email below!

i built a proxy from turnkrylinux.org on a hyper-v R2 server and added NTLM for user auth to i can tack people.

and cache windows up-dates instead of pulling masses down, "I hate wsus"

Just to update this thread we ended up getting cachepilot "upgraded" with smoothwall filtering (not a new smoothwall box)

It's slow and a bit rubbish but will have to do for now.

I did look into buying a Smoothwall solution but it didn't work on Hyper-V and the cost was a bit much up front for the dedicated hardware and I don't really want to go down that big rack server route anyway.

Definitely one for the future though. Just wish I could virtualize it :(
