farmerste Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Hi guys, i have a problem with the server disks i purchased from our LEA under the select licensing pogram. Both disks are copied/burnt by the LEA , we are then sent a copy of the license, so the disks are not original, but everything is legit. the problem is after installing the first disk only, the server has no mention of R2 anywhere to be found, and according to this article :- How to determine the version of Windows Server 2003 R2 that is running on a computer i should be able to see it in my computer, and in the registry as above. ( when i have installed the server, it never asks for the second disk ) when i have installed the second disk the server then says R2, and the registry entry can also be found, but only under HKLM\sware\microsoft\windowsNT\current version. my question is-- does the second cd make the machine R2 ?, or should the server say R2 in the registry after installing from the first cd only? another question i have is - if i slipstream sp2 into the first disk will this cause problems when i come to install the second cd, or should i install from both original cd's first, and then add sp2? i suspect, although i am not sure that the first cd is actually an earlier release of server 2003? ( and somehow there has been a mix up.) both cds just say server 2003 on them thats all. any help would be gratefully recieved. thanks
JOrdan01070 Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 If i remeber right you need to install the second cd and this will also ask for a product key which needs to be 2003 r2. You can also download the cds from microsoft direct this is a 180 day trial but if you have a product key you have the full product. farmerste Posted May 20, 2009 Author Posted May 20, 2009 used nlite to slipstream sp2 .exe file into original disk, all went well, it then asked for cd2 after it installed , but it said. setup cannot continue because this product disc is incompatible with the service pack installed on this computer, you will need to insert the latest version of windows server R2 disc 2 but i cant download them either. going to try and see if nlite will add contents of disc 2 as a patch ?
Michael Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 setup cannot continue because this product disc is incompatible with the service pack installed on this computer, you will need to insert the latest version of windows server R2 disc 2 This is normal and is simple to fix. Copy the R2 disc to your server - C:\R2 then navigate to CMPNENTS > R2. Find a file called R2INTL.INF. Open it with notepad and change the following line: R2SPLevel = 1 to R2SPLevel = 2 Save changes, then run R2AUTO.EXE manually. 1
farmerste Posted May 20, 2009 Author Posted May 20, 2009 ok thanks, i'll try that, i have just managed to download the two cd's, so i'll try that firstly
farmerste Posted May 21, 2009 Author Posted May 21, 2009 yes thanks, altering the .ini file made the cd run fine with the slipstreamed 2k3 disc i had made. i don't understand why the contents of cd2 couldn't just be an additional download from MS ?
