Crazyfray Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 Anyone considered doing a time-delay on the attendance stats, so that only registers from the last full week are displayed (or today-3 (or 5, or whatever) working days)? Considering doing it with daily XML scheduled report output, and WSS3.0 (yeah, I know, we need MOSS), XSL and a little ASP, but the issue of gaps in the registers worries me a lot.
beeswax Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 I bet it was quite expensive In fact it is very cheap (the figures are in school, but I think it was less than £2K to set up and the first year's running costs), and it was up and running within 48 hours. We already use Bromcom for the registers with PE staff being able to take registers via mobile phone when on the playing fields (I don't know if SIMS can do this) and so have Bromcom set up to read data from SIMS already.

Quackers Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 If anyone is after an inexpensive solution for the real time reporting to parents, have a look at Insight from Tasc software, costs us £500 a year and looks the best of the ones i have seen yet. We have the Sims Learning Gateway but only teachers and students use that, Insight is much better than what SIMS offers via SLG for parents.
techyphil Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 We're going to blutack the SLG2 webparts on Sharepoint and host it all internally. Costing a bit to setup initially with new hardware and software licensing costs involved. Our intentions are to use at it's full potential and get the students using the VLE like they would their home drives. Fortunately we've also been busy implementing and ironing out electronic registration issues over the past year. So I think we're in a good position to go live by Sept 09 and gradually pump information out to parents! Our SIM'S data manager over see's all the sims database issues, she's brilliant at it! I'd highly recommend you get a copy of her! Finger's crossed it goes well. I've had mixed reviews about SLG2 but overall people seem confident that resolutions are in the pipeline.
