Permissions for bulk update in SIMS

Just logged this with the SIMS helpdesk - if you lot can get there first I'll be well impressed;)

 

I want all of our teaching staff to be able to update gifted and talented subjects using Routines | student | bulk update.

 

They all have at least "Registration tutor" access, and I've created a new security group to put them to in order to enable them to use bulk update.

 

Which are the minimum permissions that need to be applied to the new group to enable them to do this?

Do all your staff really know the dos and don'ts of what should and should not be included in the pupil details?

Calm down, Calm down, That's why I'm tweaking carefully!!

 

I ONLY want them to be able to move the G&T subject ticks in bulk update - hence them all having "registration tutor" and me creating a new security group to JUST give the small extra bit!

 

Just trying to reduce the duplication of work of teachers using a marksheet to indicate who is G and / or T in their subject before an admin person moves the ticks using bulk update.

 

The helpdesk's answer, by the way, was to give everyone Admin Assistant access:eek:

 

I'll keep fiddling, just wondered if anyone had already done it:)

I wasn't going to do this due to lazyness, but after your 'unhelpful' responce i took a quick look.

 

Best i come up with is attached although i've taken under two mins so my be a more defined way of doing this.

I think it's an 'All or Nowt' scenario. So the best advice would be 'Nowt!'

You could set up an Assessment Manager template and do it that way !! May be convoluted but avoids permissions issues!

I've had a good mess around with my own system manager groups in the past having reasonable success in some instances. However I wouldn't say I'm an expert in this area so if I'm talking crap here someone please put me straight!!

 

Using the System Manager utility that allows you to define group permissions I'd suggest what you are asking for will be hard to achieve. Whilst the GUI provided in system manager allows you to set very granular permissions I don't think it will get you down as far as you want (ie - bulk update but just these particular G&T related tick boxes).

 

One way or another you'll probably end up needing to give the teachers "a bit more than you want to" to achieve this.

 

I think it would probably be possible by tampering with your SQL database using a third party tool of some description but obviously that would be a dreadful move as I'm sure support for modified DB's would be less forthcoming at your LA and CCS.

 

Sorry mate I don't think you'll do it - I don't know if System Manager 7 might change this though??
