Hi,

 

Is anyone getting the following error when they run SOLUS (it appears after you've logged on).

 

KB61730 - Wizard error message. solus was unable to contact the school manager. and can not offer any updates for you at this time. Please try later.

 

Can you PM if you get this and you're on a E2BN connection.

UPDATE:

Problem was confirmed to be an issue with the upgraded proxy servers, they have now resolved the issue. Thanks John Hackett and the rest of the E2BN staff.

Advice FIX 1:-

 

 

This behaviour is most likely caused by the presence of The Microsoft Internet Explorer Security Enhancement feature on the server. Please ensure that this component is configured to allow access to SOLUS or you can remove the feature via Add/Remove Programs > Windows components on the server.

 

 

FIX 2:-

This is where a site has multiple core licences (Local Support Units Only)

This needs to be resolved by the Distribution Team - please log a call with the Service Desk if you are experiencing this error.

 

 

FIX 3:

SOLUS 2 requires access to SOLUSUpdateService Web Service in order to negotiate with School Manager as to what downloads are available. It would appear that this is failing in this case

 

 

Checks that can be made

 

 

Can Internet explorer get to SOLUSUpdateService Web Service

Simply paste this address in to the address bar.

 

 

If it cannot access it then please check that your firewalls are not preventing access. This is http traffic and so it should not normally be blocked in Internet explorer.

 

 

If it can access the above URL then it may be that your proxy server / firewalls prevent Solus.exe accessing the above address. Please check firewall settings to ensure that this access is allowed for Solus.exe (applications can have different rights).

Check the firewall is open on HTTP, Port 80

 

 

 

 

 

Check that the proxy server name, user name and password are correct. Whilst it is usual to get some form of proxy server errors, some errors that are shown may not be obvious

We are getting this now. We have had a smoothwall UTM for the past 12 months and it has generally worked before in the past after a bit of tweaking, but I can't for the life of me remember what the tweaking is - I thought I had wrote it down on our internal wiki but can't find it.

 

Has anybody did anything special to allow SOLUS updates via their smoothwall box? We have contacted smoothwall before and they didn't seem to be able to come up with a solution.

Something about not being so strict over HTTP/1.1 proxying, Smoothwall Support should be able to help.
