RM CC3 training course advice

At the end of next month I will be taking over a NM position at a prep school that currently uses CC3. I've only had a limited amount of experience with CC3 in the past, and the school has asked me to look at training courses to get me up to speed.

 

I'm already an expert on vanilla Windows Server networks with a lot of experience in AD and server management, so when I look at the Managing Community Connect 3 for Technicians course, it looks like very rudimentary stuff that I could pick up in half a day with the manual. What really interests me is the Community Connect 3 Masterclass Essentials course, but that states that I must have attended one of the more basic courses. The school is only willing to fund up to 3 days training, so doing both is not an option; even if it was, I feel like I would be wasting the school's money by attending the Technicians course.

 

So, three questions:

 

1. Am I being presumptuous in assuming the Technicians course is too basic?
   
2. If not, can I wrangle my way onto the Masterclass course without having done the former?
   
3. Is there another option I should consider?

For clarification I was told I could attend the Masterclass course because I knew sufficiently enough, maybe Andrew's touched it on better below with having the RM Certified Tech exam under your belt; took mine on the first batch and passed without much thinking.

 

In short, I'd agree with Andrew's info below, study the manual, give it a few months and nip onto the Masterclass course as you'll have enough questions to ask/answer by then.

To be honest with you - I think you should study the CC3 manual inside out over the next couple of weeks then go to one of the RM technical seminars near you and take the RM certified techncian exam (this is free providing your school has a valid support contract) - if you pass this will be good enouh for RM to put you on the masterclass essentials course - which is alot more suitable for you as it deals more in the nitty gritty of how RM CC3 uses AD and its own software to accomplish its goals. Your right about not bothering with the CC3 For technicians course - it is perfect for someonw ith little or no experience of networks / cc3 but for you it will be a yawn fest and waste of money.

Though as Kim says - you could probably get on the masterclass course as it is - just dont let your account manager say no!

As far as aware all answer are right.

 

Also email you new school and get them to add you to one of the tech semnairs next month.

 

RM Technical Seminars

 

They are good to attend get to know other rm schools in your area get to question rm staff etc.

 

They are free to school if they have a support contract.

Thanks all for the advice here - I'm pretty sure my new school does have a support contract so will try to get booked on one of the seminars. If I were to swot up and attend a seminar with a view to sitting the test, would I need to book that in advance?

Yep when you sign up for the seminar you can book the test too.
