!!HELP!! Static IP & LAN Issue

Hi, I Give the NIC a static IP and it works fine however when i restart the old Local Area Connection disappears and new one is detected with a new IP From the DHCP server. Every restart a new Local Area Connection is created currently is on 10 only when i assign a static IP. Whats strange is if i leave the IP as Automatic its fine on reboot. I am using Windows 7 RC Ultimate Edition 64bit. Any help would be appreciated.

Where have you set the static ip in general or alternate. If you set it in alternate it will use a dhcp address if one is available and if not it will use the alternate static address.

Yep its set in general. Windows update is reporting an updated driver ill try updating and see what happens.

can you try assign a static address through the dhcp server with the correct mac address??? i dont know if this will work as i have never had to actually do it but i heard that if a mac address is assigned a static on dhcp then dhcp will always give it that mac the certain static as opposed to it finding a dynamic - if that makes any sense!

yep that way does work as i have it configured for other computers . This system is my own so would prefer to be able to change the Static IP as need. This might just be a Bug,

Did changing the driver fix the problem. I would search the nic card manufactures site for the latest and ignore windows updates. They dont always show the latest drivers

 

I have had problems with nvidia nic cards in the past, but not this exact problem.

Nope did not fix the problem, ill try the original manufactures website hopefully they got a fix/update.

This happens in Vista too, by the way. Happened regularly on a print server test setup.

Sorted the problem. I tried the latest Asus drivers but no luck. The onboard NIC was actualy a realtek NIC so got the latest drivers from there website and it works. Looks like Asus's drivers are also old as well.
