B0rked IIS??!

OK. This is really beginning to do my head in and i feel it's probably something obvious i've not realised.

 

I've been in the process of moving my Liberum setup from one server to another today so i can decomission the other into a LAMP server for MRBS.

 

I've sucessfully migrated the SQL database. That's no problem. I altered the settings.asp file to reflect the change in server for the database.

 

Now i want to move my web pages for it. I moved the pages and setup IIS and NTFS permissions so that it shouldnt ask me for authentication. It should just give access to everyone and it SHOULD be working for an anonymous user.

 

When i try to access the internal URL for this new location of the web pages it's asking for authentication. I cant see where it's getting this idea from that it should be authenticating the web pages.

 

Any ideas as to what i might have missed??

Yeah the NTFS permissions are set to what they should be. The IIS guest account has full read only access. "Everyone" has read only.

What version of IIS you running?

Does the webpage appear if you enter valid login details?

Yeah, i'm running IIS6. Standard with server 2k3 and yeah i get the webpage if i enter valid credentials.

 

But they are my credentials so it's an admin-ish account.

What about right-clicking the IIS site, go to Directory Security, click Edit in the "Anonymous access and authentication" box (first one) and make sure "Integrated Windows Authentication" (last checkbox) is ticked.

Yeh but how have you done your dns?

Does the zone in the bottom right say "Internet" or "Intranet"?

If its intranet it prompts you by default I think.

What happens if you enter no details?

Turn integrated OFF as well as other authentication types. I think its probably the "intranet" zoning with the default of "Prompt" for LAN auth triggered by the integrated checkbox being turned on.

It says intranet. But i tried different combinations of the annonymous and the integrated authentication and nowt doin

 

I'm wondering if it's something to do with the remote file access the school had Teksys (*vomits*) set up for them.

 

If i could append it to IIS on the PDC then i would but as it stands the two main DCs have gone T**s up with the graphics and we cant find any way of fixing them but that's another story.

 

I'm going to try the other BDC tommorow but for today i've had enough and i'm getting a headache

Try access the ip directly and see if it auth's

That should switch it to "internet" mode.

What proxy do you use? It could be whats authenticating

using the IP sends it into internet mode but that then tries the AUTH. It's beginning to be a pain in the arse. To have wasted the best part of a day trying to figure out why this bloody thingw wont work has gotten to me.

 

And now i've got to go and have my hair cut buy some guy who, no doubt, will take a chunk out of my skull because he'll be watching the football

I could probably fix it (been through pretty much all the IIS problems due to my unique PHP build) but not easily without getting your config to look at.

Any ISAPI filters?

Does this happen with plain .htm pages?

No isapi filters. It does it with plain html files too. We're not using PHP on IIS here. We're refusing to due to only ever having a 50% success rate. That's why the server that currently hosts the files fine is getting deomissioned to become a LAMP server

 

The contracted network engineer is in tommorow so i'll badger him about it.

 

But if you've got any more ideas throw them my way. Personally i'd rather just uninstall IIS and reinstall it so that it's a new blank configuration...but the work from home system that teksys stuck onto the server with zinc oxide plaster tape is on there. And i dont want to break it
